ON ART.

It took me a while to accept myself as an artist and what I do to express myself as art itself.

Images and words. It's all I've absorbed my entire life (until this very day) and what I like to do: through my writings and pictures.
And as I was developing my photography style, music, and even writing while growing up, I happened to be called as an artist; but always felt a repulsive backlash in my guts to the sound of it. I wouldn't dare to embrace such a title - I was not raised to be an artist, but to be a functional worker.

So the struggle of self-acceptance was long; I felt guilty for it and ten times worse whenever I met so-called artists who had nothing but projects in their minds without nothing to show. Unfortunately, I met tons of them and nothing quite concrete to look at that actually made me feel something - just theories.

I believe art in itself involves time, effort self-investment and a lot of practice to be accomplished - not easily delivered; but truly built and harnessed it.
As an example, we can just look at beautiful paintings, superb movies, impressive actors, hard-working photographers, unstoppable bands and musicians who made history, relentless writers.

All of these people inspired me to the bone, as I aspire to simply express myself through what I can do - either writing, playing (bass), and photographing.
I do not aspire to be like them, but they do give me the strength to be a better human being with a wider sight.
In conclusion, I leave below a definition of art from a comic book writer whom I have the utmost respect: John Ostrander.

Art is not merely there to entertain you. Art is meant to challenge, to show different perspectives, to introduce new ways of thinking and feeling. The best way to open a mind is through the heart and art is the best way to do that. A closed mind comes from a closed heart.

A song, a drawing, a story, a dance, a touch of theater – these can all open heart and mind. It’s why authoritarian regimes always look to control and dictate the arts, to turn it into propaganda; the arts are dangerous. They should be. That’s part of their value to society. They can challenge established notions and perceptions, in small ways as well as large.
